The Knowledgemonger Kronicles

Things learned this weekend:

-- Mario Spinetti puts on an amazing solo show.

-- The show was only enhanced by seeing it with some of the best people in my world.

-- Don't go to the pool on the weekend, you will only be thwarted by the deep end not being open and one-way streets.

-- Watching the sunset over the city from the "Our Lady of Perpetual Help" parking lot is awesome and sometimes we fail to appreciate these things.

-- Some people don't get it. Don't spend your emotional energy here.

-- Some people do get it. Spend your emotional energy here.

-- "Follow You Down" is fun to sing at SNK.

-- I start a bit early on the song "Interstate Love Song" Waiting...still waiting.

-- Road trips looking for a great view are fun, even when trees thwart the view. (Yes, I just used thwarted for now a 3rd time in this post.)

-- There are people, who can listen to the bass of their music at such a level that you can feel it for 4 hours on a Saturday morning.

-- Two thoughts have prevailed well. One, a paraphrase: Concentrate your day around the hundreds of things that go right, instead of the 5 or 6 that go wrong and you will be much happier.

-- The other, a quote: "Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense." -Ralph Waldo Emerson (there will be a blog later this week in reference to him)

-- Learning again to have fun, be less serious, never hurt people intentionally, love all, trust few and live life.

-- Learning that I cannot count my thoughts, but will leave that little error, because: I'm Real!

Working at Town at the FroZone & Hopefully catching some of Round 2 of This Town Has Talent.

Saturday

Nothing until early evening planned but I should be gathering with a few friends as they gather for some pre-Town beverages.

Then it is on to Town, where I will be working upstairs in the typical corner and throwing drinks together for the masses.

Sunday

I hope to make an appearance at a Sunday Kegger

Catching Mario Spinetti at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage at 6 PM

Then swingong on over to Sunday Night Karaoke!

Exhausted!... Still. I spent the weekend feeding revelers liquid libations. My sleep some nights (mornings) was rather broken up. I still have a pattern on my back and I still managed to have a good time overall.

Working a country concert after 4 nights of Pride events, was not so good. I was a zombie and had no tolerance for the people. However, it is over and done with.

I don't have a "Notes From The Frozen Bar" this week. My bad, I will try to do better next week. There was enough going on that note taking took a back seat this week. Minus the note of there being no protein on the new drink menu. :-)

The good times of the weekend were:

~Seeing Charles & Charlie, even if one of them left his bags at Nellie's after getting tossed (oops)

~Getting a textured pattern on my back

~Joining Vida and getting a little acclimated to the place.

~Making money

~Watching "Enchanted" with someone that knows all the songs.

~Taking a 30 minute metro trip from Gallery Place/Chinatown to Shaw/Howard U. (yes...2 stops) Metro Opens Doors!

So, on to fact checking or how we won a trivia contest and have no good reason to have done so.

Last night (Monday), myself & my roommate went up to the City Tavern in Old Town Manassas to meet up with The Girls of Manassas whom I have not seen in at least a year and to participate in the trivia night. Apparently straight bars don't take their trivia as seriously as gay bars, which is kinda interesting. Well, ok, maybe it is just this rednecky type bar that does not. Anyway, I found it odd that somehow with missing a bunch of questions at the end of 4 rounds and going into the final round we had 480 points and were in first place by 60. I tried to do math that might make sense for us to have so many points and that didn't go so well in my mind.

And then there were the problems with questions:

1. Who has the most Super Bowl MVPs and how many? Answer given: Joe Montana with 4. Correct Answer: Joe Montana with 3, I had to point out to the host that Jerry Rice and Steve Young both won 1 MVP apiece and that San Francisco has won 5 Super Bowls not 6. Okay so, not a hugh problem just a number thing.

2. What was the role on NYPD Blue played by Jimmy Smits, David Caruso & Ricky Schroder? Answer given: Det. John Kelly. Correct Answer: They all played different detectives. Jimmy Smits was Det. Bobby Simone, David Caruso was Det. John Kelly and Rick Schroder was Det. Danny Sorenson. Apparently, someone never watched this show.

3. What is Tiger Woods' record in playoffs? Answer given: 15-2 Correct Answer: 15-2, good job on getting this one correct as it includes his worldwide totals and not just the PGA tally (11-1)...but, wait what was the host's explanation? "He is 15-2 in all PGA events and 11-1 in playoffs in majors." (oops!) I just about spit out my beer that I was drinking when I heard that. For those who don't know Tiger just won his 14th Major and no...12 of them have not gone to a playoff. Only two have, the 2000 PGA Championship and the 2008 U.S. Open.

There were other uncertainties over the course of the evening, but as a knowledgemonger nights like these drive me nuts.

~ Numbering tickets in Roman Numerals is funny for me, but not so funny for those having to read them.
~ Guy in scarf says "I don't think this fits here." Really?!?
~ We serve no Virgins here!
~ Girl: Do you have any cool drinks?
Me: What constitutes "cool"?
Girl: With Alcohol
Me: They are all "cool"
Girl: Oh, Okay.
~ "Oh My God! Are Those--Like--Slurpees?"
~ "Don't turn my jacket into a margarita."
~ Guy: Can I get an Absolut & Tonic?
Me: Yes, over there.
~ People who tip $4 on a checked item rock my world.
~ Chats with a Marine who specializes in Nuclear & Biotechnical Warfare are interesting.


Saturday Night...not at the Frozen Bar

~ Ordering 1 drink at a time will just piss off your bartender...get it all out and move on, it is kinda busy.
~ Doing the same thing while ordering 2 identical drinks that require shaking is grounds for drink being splashed in your face.
~ Doing Both of these and then asking if I got the extra amount, which happened to be $1 will cause the bartender to rudely dismiss you
~ All of these actions happening and you taking offense is not acceptable!
~ Guys who shamelessly flirt and then fail to tip are getting absolutely nowhere.
~ People who realize the skill that it takes to memorize 8+ drink orders, make them all at once and give them to the appropriate people also rock my world. Thanks!
~ Cleaning the frozen drink machines SUCKS! Sorry Barbara.
~ Lastly, it amuses me that people are super impressed when you remember what they are drinking when they return to your bar.

Overall, it was a good weekend. Hopefully the next few rock just as well. :-)
